We are a group of diverse volunteers who closely partner with families, staff members, and administration with the understanding that we are all critical partners in developing and sustaining the community we support. Our board aspires to represent the diversity of Pioneer so that we can develop authentic connections across differences to strengthen our school.
It takes a coordinated effort, inside and outside of school, to encourage and support our children's self-discovery, exploration, and intellectual risk-taking. To this end, we tap into the individual and collective contributions that families bring to our school to strengthen the Pioneer community.
We stay curious about how visible and invisible identity characteristics (i.e. gender, family structure, race, religion, language) impact belonging in our school community and make efforts to disrupt any patterns of exclusion.
We believe that opportunities to learn and celebrate together are necessary for a joyful environment for our students, staff, and families. We aim to support Pioneer community traditions (i.e. book fair) while also designing new events based on current needs and opportunities (i.e. Diwali, SPED Family Night).
We organize several fundraisers throughout the school year. We believe in equitably allocating our resources so that all communities get what they need to be engaged and successful. To do so, we strive to understand and attend to specific individual and community needs, providing additional resources to those with greater needs (i.e. special education recess equipment). We also focus on transparently communicating the use of our funds.
We are committed to listening to our students, families, and staff to guide our work and build healthy and collaborative relationships. We communicate via various channels and explicitly make efforts to remove barriers to communication.
Our volunteers hold different board positions from fundraising to public relations to staff appreciation. Some of us work away from home full time while others work in the home full time supporting our families. We meet each board member where they are and trust that each of us will contribute in unique and meaningful ways. Finally, we provide opportunities for families to volunteer at events and to serve on committees. We are committed to holding ourselves accountable and ensuring that our actions align with our values.
